the University of Melbourne in Australia Doctor Major/Field of Study: VeterinaryCongratulations to Alicia Turner who is one of the recipients of The Thomson Leadership and Innovation Award scholarship for 2023.
Ms. Turner will be pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Melbourne in Australia. She is a graduate of the University of Guelph where she received her Bachelor of Science (Honors) degree in June 2022. Upon completion of her studies, Ms. Turner plans to return to the Cayman Islands to share her knowledge about innovative medical treatments with local veterinarians.
She received a basketball scholarship to play and study in an American boarding school. She then played on the basketball team for her University and the Cayman Islands. While studying for her bachelor’s degree, Alicia returned to work during the summer at veterinary clinics in Cayman. She also was a VIDA volunteer in Costa Rica.
The Thomson Leadership and Innovation Award is a scholarship created by The Peter N. Thomson Family Foundation designed to recruit and support Caymanian students who are driven to improve the Cayman Islands in areas including, but not limited to, entrepreneurial studies, emerging technologies, design and creative arts and/or the sciences.
