The Peter N. Thomson Scholarship Fund will provide support for two students, who are citizens or permanent residents of The Bahamas and The Cayman Islands, and who demonstrate need and exhibit outstanding academic potential, to access a secondary school education at Bishop’s College School.
The first recipient of The Peter N. Thomson Family Scholarship Fund is a 14-year-old girl from The Bahamas. A strong student both academically and athletically, we welcomed her from Eleuthera on September 3. She shows her spirit of adventure through her determination, love of challenge, and happiness when she is out of her comfort zone.
At Bishop’s College School we teach students to think critically, creatively, and independently. This year our first scholarship recipient will be learning those skills through classes in English, French, Math, Robotics, Science & Technology, History & Citizenship, Personal Development & Health, and Visual Arts. Building on her love of sports, she has signed up for cross-country running.
Our scholarship recipient, like all students at the school, has become a member of the BCS No. 2 Cadet Corps, which is a rich, time-honoured, and respected school tradition that engages the cadets in formal leadership training—as well as activities that encourage outdoor survival, citizenship, teamwork, and discipline.
While giving thanks to the Thomson Family and introducing The Peter N. Thomson Family Scholarship Fund to the Bishop`s College School community at an event this fall, Head of School William Mitchell, BCS’63, said,"Your support, your commitment to BCS, and the power of your gift to affect both the students who benefit and the communities they will go back to and help build, as well as the important contribution you ensure by supporting diversity in our student body, is immeasurable. This is a tremendous gift! And its impact will be farreaching and long-lived. "
Bishop’s College School looks forward to welcoming the next recipients of The Peter N. Thomson Family Scholarship Fund throughout the years to come.
